Monetha
Context
Monetha is a cashback service with a crypto layer, where users earn rewards for purchases and can withdraw them as money or tokens. While the value proposition seems simple at first glance, the product combines several complex models, which makes it difficult for users to immediately understand how it works.
In complex products, the main problem is rarely the interface, but rather an unclear mental model. Effective onboarding is not about explanatory screens, but about designing the right first experience.
Problem
The core problem was that users did not trust the product because they did not understand where the money comes from or why rewards are not credited instantly. Non-transparent statuses and the presence of crypto increased the sense of complexity and risk, which prevented users from reaching their first moment of value.
Decision making
We intentionally avoided explaining crypto at the beginning, as it created unnecessary anxiety and distracted from the core value. We also chose Explore as the main entry point instead of Wallet, because users first need to understand how to earn, not where funds are stored. At the same time, we decided not to hide transaction statuses, but to keep them visible in order to build trust through transparency.
Results
Onboarding stopped being a separate flow and became part of the overall user journey. Users first encounter value, then take action, and only afterwards gradually understand how the product works. We reduced the bounce rate among new users from 64% to 24%.
